About The Author
From the time she learned to spell, author Carrington Tyson has been writing stories. Having moved all over the country from an early age, the sights she has seen have sparked an interest in many different topics.
Carrington's love of horses started when she was young. Many of her stories include horses and young girls. By the time she was fourteen, she had a number of books written.
Her first novel, The Little Pony, ignited her imagination. “I thought that book was so cool when I wrote it,” says the sixteen year-old author. “I read it now, and it seems silly!” Even so, Carrington continued to write, beginning a series for young children called The Adventures of Ginger and Sara, about a girl and her palomino mare. These works were stored in her computer as more were written.
Not every story is horse-centered though. Carrington writes on a variety of themes. Her siblings always have an idea up their sleeves as well. The author writes Sci-fi and stories set in the Medieval time period. With plenty of people to read her stories to, she has a lot of input.
Even though Carrington loves to write, she also has other hobbies that keep her busy. Carrington is learning Old English sword-fighting. She enjoys her weekly classes which teach self-defense as well as fighting with a broadsword. Carrington also loves photography. She has spent many hours taking pictures, often entering into contests. Horses and nature are her main themes.
Another hobby Carrington is fond of is baking. She has a small baking business making cookies and cupcakes to sell to her neighbors and friends. Singing and playing the piano are also talents she shares with those around her. Carrington has sung for several public occasions since she was four years old, and each crowd has been touched by her sweet voice.
Carrington's first chance to show the world her skills was when she was seven years old. She entered an essay contest for a Christian magazine. The essay was entitled “The Light Up Frog.” It was about a toad she had caught and fed fireflies, which made it's belly light up! She won the contest for her age group, and was given the first prize of $50! When Carrington was 11, she entered another essay contest entitled “Why My Family Shops The Commissary”. She won that too and was given the laptop she still uses to write books today!
Another opportunity came when Carrington offered to write a book about a stray dog for a therapeutic horseback riding center for which she was volunteering. “I jumped at the opportunity and wrote the book in a matter of hours,” Carrington says. The book, The Tale of Scooter: A Story of Trust was completed in time for the center's fundraiser and it brought in a little over a hundred dollars for the farm. Spurred on by her success, Carrington thought about another book to write.
Coming across an unfinished manuscript that had been forgotten, Carrington read over the few sentences it contained and realized it held potential. Her mind whirling with thoughts, Carrington quickly finished the story. It is an adventure for pre-teens about a tomboy princess and a dragon. The book, Princess Isabelle and the Hidden Dragon, was published not long after. This is book one of a trilogy.
Carrington has recently finished book two of the Isabelle Chronicles Series and hopes to have it published soon. Carrington is currently working on several other manuscripts, including a 50,000 word Sci-Fi novel written with older audiences in mind, revolving around four unlikely characters; a doctor, a gangster, a botanist, and a model, who are forced on an incredible journey.
Another story she plans to publish, entitled The Little Filly that Could, is a fictional story about the first filly to win the Triple Crown.
This young author plans to keep writing, and many more books are predicted in her future.
